So, you’re interested but find yourself asking “How do I best store and thaw these awesome Big Dog Rolls?” Don’t worry, we’ve got you covered in this step-by-step guide.

Step 1 - Choosing your roll

The first step is choosing your dog’s favourite Big Dog roll flavour. Our rolls are available in Combo, Chicken, Sensitive Skin, and Active.

If you’re a first-time dog owner or new to Big Dog, we have a handy Product Finder to help guide you in finding the perfect raw food for your pet.

Step 2 - How to store raw dog food rolls

Our rolls come frozen (just like our patties), so they should be kept in the freezer until ready for use. Keeping raw dog food frozen is important as it helps to keep it fresh and ensures the food remains safe to thaw and serve later.

Our rolls can be a little tricky to cut frozen, so if you’re wanting to portion the meat, we recommend lightly thawing the product and then portioning for re-freeze. You can do this by partially de-frosting overnight in the fridge.

Product Bonus: Our Rolls have 250g cut lines for your convenience!

It is important to not completely thaw our rolls and then re-freeze, as the meat needs to maintain a low temperature to keep product integrity.

With your portions, we recommend placing them into airtight containers for storing in the freezer.

Our customers also recommend:

  • Freezer bags
  • RollMate containers
  • Airtight Containers
  • Silicone lid covers over your choice of storage

Step 3 - How to thaw raw dog food

Our rolls need to be fully thawed prior to serving to your pup. Remove your pup’s desired portion from the freezer and place into the fridge overnight and thaw until defrosted.

The next day, you can take your defrosted raw meat out of the fridge and serve to your beloved pup.

If you have fully thawed your pup’s portion in the fridge but did not use it, you can keep it sealed in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 48 hours.

Step 4 - Staying safe

When handling raw food, remember to thoroughly wash your hands, work areas and utensils with warm soapy water to maintain safe hygiene around raw meat. Don’t forget to also give your pup’s bowl a good clean too!
