About our Supplements

At Big Dog, we understand that nutrition is the foundation of health, and that a healthy diet is the key to this. However, there are situations where dogs need more than just a healthy diet. Very active, working and competing dogs, as well as older pets or pets with specific health challenges may require a little extra help. For this reason, Big Dog has a range of supplements to help keep our extra-needs pets in tip top shape.

FAQs

Are your probiotics microencapsulated?

Absolutely! Microencapsulation plays an important role in protecting probiotic bacteria from the degradation that the digestive system was designed to do. It ensures they can stay viable through to the colon and, most importantly, get absorbed and benefit the pet’s health the way they are intended.

Can I add extra probiotics to your food and do I need to?

For the average, healthy dog there is no need to add extra probiotics to the diet as our recipes already contain probiotics at levels to help maintain healthy gut function. For dogs that need extra help with digestion, immune function, skin health, recovery from illness or have completed a course of antibiotics, adding extra probiotics is a great idea. Dogs transitioning from one diet to another can also benefit from daily probiotic supplementation to assist with this change.

Can my pet eat Big Dog while on antibiotics since your food contains probiotics?

There is no problem with feeding our food when your pet is on antibiotics. The antibiotics may damage the probiotics that are in our food, but the probiotics will not negatively impact the effect of the antibiotics which have been prescribed for your pet. A course of probiotics after the antibiotics are finished is highly recommended to get gut health back on track.

Reviews

We love these products! Our two bubs are both on the kangaroo patties but we do alternate flavours. We wanted to go raw but did not have the confidence to feed ourselves as I didn't want to miss out on any vitamins or ingredients they were not getting. With Big Dog, their coats are ultra soft and shiny and we regularly get complimented on it. Our pug has lost weight following their instructions which is fantastic! They also have a probiotic powder that you can sprinkle over the food. Our boy has a sensitive stomach and we use this and he has stopped vomiting. In fact, during a massive heat wave our labrador actually got a bit sick in the stomach and after adding the powder to her food stopped being sick. Now we use this for both our dogs and they love it!

Product Review

I purchased this probiotic to help my 50kg senior dog with lymphoma. He was put in several antibiotics to help provide symptomatic relief, but they really upset his stomach and as a result, he wasnt eating much and lost weight rapidly. I was reminded that pet probiotics exist. This one is great value for money too as it contains the prebiotic, but also given the large size of my dog, the jar would last approx 1.5 months. I mix this in a whisked raw egg and my dog laps it up out of the bowl. Its helped him start eating on his own again and helped with some of the negative side effects of his medicines. Just remember to give this several hours after an antibiotic so it isnt cancelled out.

Recently used this probiotic on my Boxer who had virtually been having dodgy upset tummy issues since we got him as a pup. After trying different diets nothing was really working enough, would still be off his dinner, throwing up and loose stools, gurgling guts, terrible eye bogeys and being miserable so I decided to research then try a proper probiotic to help his guts and digestion. It took a couple weeks to really notice a change which is normal, used the whole bottle and combined with another diet adjustment it has worked absolute wonders on him! Much happier, healthier looking and pretty much all his symptoms have gone. Highly recommend ok_hand

I didnt really understand probiotics but bought the Big Dog brand having read the probiotics guide on petfoodreviews.com.au. This product seems to focus on pro and prebiotics and digestive enzymes, so works out better value for money than alternatives which contain a fair amount of grains and other stuff. Low and behold my Kelpie improved digestion in only a few weeks and now more buoyant with firmer poops. So thanks to Big Dog for these probiotics, and its convinced me to feed the patties as well.

Big Dog Probiotics contain probiotics and digestive enzymes which are micro-encapsulated to ensure they reach the intestines where they are needed without degradation due to stomach acids.
