About

Like many green vegetables, broccoli provides many health benefits for our pets when fed in species-appropriate amounts. Broccoli is an excellent source of fibre which contributes to digestive health, provides food for beneficial bacteria, assists in improving stool quality, and decreases symptoms associated with digestive dysfunction such as gas, bloating, and flatulence.
Broccoli is also a source of vitamins K and C, as well as folate, potassium, and manganese. While the amounts of some of these nutrients do not match those provided by the meat and offal ingredients in Big Dog diets, they do contribute to the overall completeness of these diets for our pets.
Where broccoli is unique in it’s benefits for our pets is due to a particular antioxidant found in the plant family broccoli is a part of, the cruciferous vegetable family. This antioxidant is called sulforaphane and is a potent antioxidant which has shown to contribute to the prevention of cancer and inflammation in the body.
Vegetables in Big Dog recipes are finely minced to unlock their goodness. This is because our pets lack the digestive enzymes to break down plants to access their nutrition. Mincing these ingredients allows our pets to benefit from the nutritional and antioxidant properties of these highly nutritive and beneficial ingredients.
