About

There is conflicting information regarding tomatoes for our pets, online. This is because the stems of tomatoes are toxic for dogs and it’s important to feed only ripe tomatoes for their health benefits and for the safety of our pet. Some online sources take this information and suggest tomatoes in all forms are unsafe for our pets which isn’t the case.

When ripe, tomatoes have many positive benefits for our pets. Like all plants, tomatoes are a source of fibre which contributes to digestive health. Fibre is a source of food for beneficial bacteria, assisting in improving stool quality and decreasing symptoms associated with digestive dysfunction such as gas, bloating and flatulence.

Tomatoes are also a source of vitamin C and K. Tomatoes are rich in the unique antioxidant, lycopene, which has been researched in its role in cancer prevention as well as protecting the cardiovascular system through its antioxidant activities.

Important in healthy ageing of senior dogs, tomato is an important inclusion in our Wellbeing recipe and is finely minced to unlock the nutrition.

Finely mincing our fruits and vegetables is important because our pets lack the digestive enzymes to break down plants to access their nutrition. Mincing these ingredients allows our pets to benefit from the nutritional and antioxidant properties of these highly nutritive and beneficial ingredients.
